Where and when will The Circle of HOPE happen?
At the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City, July 20-22, 2018. Explore http://xii.hope.net for more information, and to register.
How much are tickets?
Tickets will be available at the door for $180.
Is it necessary to buy a ticket in advance?
Advance purchase is recommended, in case the event is sold out. Advance purchase tickets are cheaper, and it is usually quicker than waiting to pay at the door. We have a huge space but if we ever managed to totally fill it, those with advance tickets would have priority as with any event.
Is it safe to buy a ticket online?
It's at least as safe as any other type of online purchase. 2600 has an online store since 1999 and has kept customer data secure throughout, and also gets one of the highest ratings of customer satisfaction. Contrary to the myths perpetuated by the mass media, hackers are the ones who know about the security flaws and will take steps to protect customers.
Can I buy a ticket with Bitcoins?
Yes! You can pay for your preregistration using Bitcoins (as well as anything else we offer) at the 2600 store. HOPE became the first hacker conference in America to accept Bitcoins back in 2014.
Will there be Internet access at HOPE?
Definitely. There will be a great wireless network, as well as switches available for a wired connection. At HOPE X in 2014 and The Eleventh HOPE in 2016, we had the fastest Internet connection in the history of American hacker conferences (10 gigabit). Please bring your ideas on ways to use MORE bandwidth!
My editor is sending me to cover HOPE. How do I get press credentials?
There is tremendous competition for press credentials at HOPE and we simply can't accommodate all of the requests. It's probably much easier for your organization to pay the small fee and send you as an attendee. You will have the same amount of access and you will be guaranteed entry. If you want to be considered for a press pass (and again, they are VERY limited in number) or if you're from a major news organization and plan on having a crew covering the event, please email press@hope.net and we will consider your request.
Are you on Twitter?
Yes. please follow @hopeconf
What is the age limit?
HOPE has no age limit, but we don't at present have specific areas designed for children. You must be 18 to book a room at the Hotel Penn.
What is a hacker?
Hackers are explorers, thinkers, tinkerers and teachers. They seek to understand systems in the world around them. Many hackers use technology as part of their quest for knowledge. To understand systems, hackers often assess their behaviors when design parameters are exceeded or bypassed. Curiosity is one of the main motivations for hacking, and many hackers like to share their findings with others.
Will the conference be full of criminals?
No, the conference will be full of creative and caring people, sharing what they know. You are encouraged to attend, and to contribute your energies and ideas to help make it even better.
Will there be people at the conference who can teach me to hack?
Yes! Or, more accurately, they will help teach you to think with a hacker mindset. The conference will be a supportive learning environment where you can get hands-on experience with different hardware and software tools and their associated skill sets. There will be keynotes, tutorials, competitions, and hands-on classes. You, too, can help to teach! Bring your own experiments and experiences, and consider providing your own knowledge to participants in discussions, tutorials, and other sessions.
Is HOPE a safe and welcoming environment?
All attendees are expected to respect the diverse views of our community, and the many different personalities. HOPE values participation from everyone, period. The HOPE Code of Conduct helps to guide this expectation, as well as the response if problems are encountered.
Is the event space accessible?
Yes, and you can get in touch with info@hope.net if you have specific questions about your mobility or other accessibility needs. The Pavillion (1st and 2nd floor) is served by escalators and elevators, and volunteers are available to assist in their operation. The main speaker and workshop rooms are served by elevator.
What are the dining options? Can I bring my own snacks? Is HOPE gluten/meat/peanut/soy/mango free?
HOPE doesn't provide meals or snacks, although we do plan on selling Club Mate, which has many essential nutrients. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink. Please be respectful of those around you by not eating or drinking things that are loud or stinky, and clean up after yourself. Remember that HOPE is in the middle of Manhattan, so there are plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. But hurry back, because HOPE continues throughout the day and night.
